Jute
Jute is called the golden fiber of Bangladeshi. About 80% of the total production of jute in the world grows in Bangladesh. It is also called our cash crop because it earns a lot of foreign exchange by exporting jute and jute goods.

Jute grows well in swampy land in a moist climate. It needs fertile land, proper weeding out of the grass, and sufficient rainfall. The seeds are sown in the months of March and April. Within two or three months the plants grow up to 7 to 10ft. high. The plants are then cut down, made into bundles and kept underwater for a few days. When their barks are rotten, the fibers are taken off. These fibers are washed and dried in the sun. Thus jute is ready for sale.

Jute is used in many ways. Clothes, ropes, gunny bags, carpets, etc are made of jute. Jute stalks are used as fuel and fence. Hard boards, mats, brushes, toys are made of jute. Carpets, paper, and warm clothes are also made of it. Jute plays a vital role in developing our country. So both the Govt. and the industrialists should take proper care to develop this industry.
